Sixty-year old Sirajuddin Hamiya, a retired police official busies himself in maintenance works inside the mile-long irrigation channel that the local community in Sost, Northern Pakistan started to dig by themselves in 1983. After an assesment visit from Sohaib Sultan Khan, they received an assistance grant from the Rural Support Programme to purchase building materials and complete the work. Eventually, they reached the glacier and started an irrigation scheme that has dramatically improved farming in this town.
